Indian Wells Resort (5)

Here are some date trees behind the rv park. They wrap bags around each date bunch in order to keep off the rain and also to deter birds, sunshine and insects from ruining the soft mature dates.
Our last day here. Looking forward to our trip on June 6 to Colo., Idaho, Montana, Nevada,
Oregon, So. Dakota, and Wyoming 5 weeks on the road.

Roadrunners would come around our site during the day. The roadrunner prefer walking or running and attain speeds up to 17 mph. hour.
The typical diet for them is insects, lizards and snakes. The roadrunner is a large black and white, mottled ground bird with a distinctive head crest. It has strong feet, a long, white tipped tail and an oversized bill.
Here is a few pics of the roadrunner. Also here is a picture of a hawk in the tree next to our site.

March 16-29, 2006 Indian Wells RV Resort, Indio, Ca.(1)

Indian Wells RV Resort in Indio, Ca.

We are relaxing at this RV resort for 2 weeks. Their amenties include 3 swimming pools, pool tables, ping pong, tennis, horseshoe pits and more. You are 20 minutes from Palm Springs. You can visit the Palm Springs Air Museum, Desert Museum, Living Desert Reserve and Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and many golf courses and restaurants. Our view from our site is the San Bernardino Mountains. You can see lots of snow on the mountains this month.

We have been enjoying the weather here in the 70's and 80's. Barbeque on the warm evenings and enjoy the sunsets with a cocktail. Tina our dog just loves the outdoors.
Here is Tina enjoying a popsicle on a warm afternoon.

March 13-15 Joshua Tree (4)

The sunsets in the desert can be beauiful. You never know what you will see. We were lucky
and had a beautiful sunset while we were there.
Here are a couple of pics of the sunset in the desert.

March 8, 2006 Pine Ranch RV Park, Banning, Ca.

We stayed one night here before heading to 29 Palms, Ca.
You had a view of the San Jacinto Mountains. There was a nice sunset that night.

March 13-15 Joshua Tree (3)

There are many different flowers in the desert but not many in early March.
Here is a few pics we saw there. Also got a picture of a bird on a Octillo bush.

March 13-15 Joshua Tree (2)

The next day we took a hike to Cottonwood Spring Oasis. The spring is the result of earthquake activity which was used for centuries by the Cahuilla Indians, who left bedrock mortars and clay pots in the area. This place was also a important water stop for prospectors, miners, and teamsters traveling from Mecca to mines in the north. This is one of the best birding spots in the park you can see and hear the birds in the palm and cottonwood trees. Native Americans ate the palm fruit and used the fronds to build waterproof dwellings.

The Cahuillas also planted palm seeds in promising locations.

March 13-15, 2006 Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park lies 140 miles east of Los Angeles.
We stayed at Cottonwood Spring which is 25 miles east of Indio, Ca. This park encompasses some of the most interesting geologic displays in all California deserts. Exposed granite monoliths and rugged, twisted-rock mountains testify to powerful earth forces. This is a great rock climbing place.
There are many campgrounds
here to choose from Belle, Black Rock, Cottonwood Spring, Hidden Valley, Indian Cove, Jumbo Rocks, Ryan and White Tank. We arrived here on 3/13 and staying 3 nights. The weather was cool and breezy but the sun was out. There is no hook-ups here dry camping only. The campground has water and restrooms. Here is a pic of our site and the desert.

March 9-12, 2006 29 Palms RV Park, 29 Palms, Ca.

Right next to the entrance of Joshua Tree National Park is a beautiful desert
wilderness area. It is this place 29 Palms, Ca. The town is small but thousands of tourists every year visit here. The peace and serenity offered by the desert attracts a large community of artists as well. It has taken many people from many backgrounds to form what is now "Our Desert Paradise". The Marine base here is the biggest in the world. We arrived here on March 9. The weather was cool and windy for 4 days. We enjoyed riding our bikes and relaxing.
